Bell MX-9 Adventure MIPS Dirt Helmet Review

The Bell MX-9 Adventure Dirt Helmet has been with me through everything. Every time I’ve crashed, it’s protected my head and kept me safe while I continue to ride the trails or race on the track. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t without flaws, which I will cover in this comprehensive review of the Bell MX-9 Adventure Dirt Helmet.

Size and Fit

The Bell MX-9 is a size large and it fit my head perfectly. I don’t have a lot of hair, but there was still plenty of room inside to allow for some comfy padding. My forehead measured 22, which put me at a little less than an inch from the top of my head to where it meets my forehead. This helmet will easily fit heads that are up to 23 or 24 inches in circumference, and you can be sure that you will be comfortable wearing it for long periods of time if your head measures between 21 and 23 inches around (again, not including hair). You should consider going for something a little bigger if your skull measurement is around 20 or 19 inches.

DropDown SunShield Visor

The Bell MX-9 helmet comes with a drop down sun shield visor. The drop down sunshield allows you to block out most of the light in front of your eyes, creating a tunnel like effect for riding on sunny days. Although there is not much peripheral vision when using it, it does make it easier to see what is directly in front of you and increases your concentration by blocking out surrounding distractions while riding. This would be especially helpful when using this helmet during an off road ride where there are more obstacles in between yourself and your objective.

Build Quality

The Bell MX-9 is solid. From its comfortable liner to its convenient visor, nothing seems cheap or flimsy. The oval eye port and wide eye port make it easy to maneuver your head around while riding and you don’t have to worry about dealing with a helmet that squeezes too tightly or feels loose, as you can easily adjust both side straps with your gloves on. While there are some weak points in terms of weight (more on that later), there’s no doubt about it; Bell’s done a good job designing a sturdy helmet here that has all of the premium features you could want from an adventure-ready lid!
